Lonely Ranch Games

Richard Gaskill

QA Lead · Programmer · Co-Founder

“I make games because gaming opened worlds, created friendships, and carried me through hard moments—and I want to give that experience to someone else.”

Richard is the QA lead, programmer, and co-founder of Lonely Ranch Games. He’s the one who looks at what could go wrong, plans for it, and makes sure the studio understands the consequences before committing to a new direction. LRG doesn’t move into a new phase without Richard weighing the pros, cons, and possible outcomes.

Where others dream, Richard grounds those dreams in reality. He listens first, speaks carefully, and fixes people more often than things—calming, redirecting, and steadying the ship when it starts to drift. When he speaks up, it’s because it matters.

Richard has wanted to build games for over 30 years. Long before LRG existed, he was outlining worlds, writing stories, and creating maps. His approach starts with world and lore, then moves into mechanics and design. Map creation and worldbuilding are his strongest instincts—he memorizes layouts, anticipates player behavior, and hides secrets exactly where he’d look for them himself.

Games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Halo 2, and the original Far Cry shaped his love of building spaces for others to explore. He found more joy in crafting experiences for friends than playing them himself—and that mindset still defines his work.

As QA lead, Richard breaks things relentlessly. He believes games shouldn’t be made for everyone, but should stay true to the creator’s vision and find the audience they’re meant for—without sanitizing ideas or chasing popularity.

Outside of development, Richard spends time with his dog, runs on energy drinks when deadlines hit, and carries a quiet determination to see things through.
